Intern Developer

As an intern developer, you'll assist the team in creating top-notch technology. Together with the CTO and the developer team, you'll be assigned a project. That project could consist of a part of the technology, or maybe supporting tools that we use to streamline the development process.

CHILI publish creates technology to make jobs in the graphic arts industry better and easier. And not to boast, but we’ve really done some extraordinary things. Our software is flexible, scalable and can be easily integrated. CHILI publisher is an online editing solution that is booming so hard we still find ways of improving it, thanks to the feedback of our users worldwide. CHILI rendro is a PDF rendering SDK that’s just been introduced, but has been on the industry’s wish list for many years. We made it happen.

To be able to create this kind technology, we rely on driven developers who are willing to dig deep into the source code of software and master it to perfection to find the best possible solution. Our people are our capital and we treat them as such. Work hard, play hard, care even more.

The future belongs to the young and we want to pay it forward. So we’re also opening up our company SDK to young student developers who are eager to learn and grow within an international organization. And we’re not just talking about tech, we’re also sharing our expertise in international and multicultural cooperation.

That’s right, we’re based in local Aalst in Belgium, but we work in a global environment. That means our company language is English. In our Aalst office, the Dutch speaking colleagues take up 80% of the total, but most of the conversations are still in English. (We don’t want anybody to feel left out.)

The CTO, team lead and most of the development team is native Dutch speaking, so any intern will be coached in his/her native language.

Which intern are we looking for? Several, really. We’ve listed some projects below – have a look and let us know which one(s) caught your eye.

Some of the projects you could work on:

Project: Envelope distortion

Our flagship product software is CHILI publisher, a suite of tools to enable online document editing — think Adobe® InDesign® in the browser. It allows users to edit their graphic arts document in a browser. And it needs a new feature.

We’d like to add the possibility to distort elements / frames. (Image frames, text frames, shapes, …)

Project: CHILI Publisher to HTML & CHILI Publisher to SVG

Our flagship product software is CHILI publisher, a suite of tools to enable online document editing — think Adobe® InDesign® in the browser. It allows users to edit their graphic arts document in a browser. And it needs a new feature.

Typically, the output of CHILI publisher consists of a PDF, ready for print production. However, more and more users are requesting an output to HTML and SVG. Customer is King, right?

This project will consist of the creation of the necessary routines and configuration interfaces to be able to output to both HTML(5) and SVG.

Project: CHILI publisher back office

What needs to be done?

We need to build a new web application (ASPX, JavaScript, HTML, CSS) to act as a back office application for the CHILI publisher application.

All assets, fonts, resources, users, etc… are managed in XML files on the server. The management of these files happens through web services. The back office will be the front-end application that will manage all resources through these web services.

The back office will allow the end-user to organize his/her documents in folders and subfolders, it will also enable him/her to configure the required settings in the front-end application, etc.
